About the Product Center
The Michigan State University (MSU) Product Center helps Michigan entrepreneurs and existing businesses to develop and launch new product and service ideas into food, agriculture and bioprocessing markets. We offer a portfolio of services designed to help our clients select specific facets of assistance for their individual needs - no matter what stage of product or service development. Our service offerings include concept and business development, in-depth feasibility and technical analyses, packaging and labeling assistance, market research and analyses of high-value, differentiated and niche products and ongoing assistance including updates on trends affecting the evolution of your industry or product. Our proprietary Marketmaker mapping resource links agricultural product businesses with markets across Michigan connecting all parts of the food supply chain – farmers, processors, retailers, consumers, restaurant owners, institutional buyers and others. In addition to the comprehensive service offerings provided by the Product Center, clients also have access to an experienced and supportive staff both on campus and a group of innovation counselors located across the state of Michigan. Clients also have access through the Product Center to MSU faculty members, various kinds of specialists that are hired by the university and outside private consultants and private service providers.
Established in 2003 as a partnership between the MSU College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Michigan State University Extension and MSU AgBio Research, the Product Center has helped launch 229 known new businesses and business expansions, generating over $303 million in increased annual first year sales.
